Weekly Favorite: Rarity.

So in order to create some organization to my posts, I thought I'd take a day to advocate anything I come across that I enjoy.  Be it an addon, zone, person, activity, etc.

For my first favorite:

Rarity

This addon creates a colored border around icons so you can see at a glance the value of items.  White, green, blue, purple, gold.  This works for the following options:

  • Backpack Icon View (1.0)
  • Character Screen (1.2)
  • Quest Rewards (1.2)
  • Influence Rewards (1.3)
  • Bank (1.4)
  • Guild Vault (1.4)
  • Trade (1.4)
  • Auction (1.4)
  • Merchant (1.4)
  • Mail (1.4)
  • Backpack List View (1.4)
  • Player Inspection (1.8)
  • CharactersViewer (1.8)
  • ClosetGoblin (1.8)
  • Loot/Roll Windows (1.10)
  • ItemRack (1.10)
  • zMailMod (1.10)
  • nLootLink (1.10)

I never knew how important this addon was to me until I decided to go with the default UI on the PTS.  I remembered after the second or so trip to the merchant that this feature was not WAR implemented.  I wonder how many good items I vendored?  Good thing it was just on the PTS.

This is definitely a must have addon.  It'll make your life so much easier.

WCPI Week 1.

I've jumped on Warhammer Alliance's WAR Community Promotion Initiative (WCPI) bandwagon.

This week I'm promoting a blog that I can definitely relate to: Alt Much?

One of Ventris' very first posts made me smile and sunk that hook in real deep.  He's also ventured to explain the draw or why of alting here.  It's very refreshing to know that I'm not alone in this world of Altoholicism.

Every post is usually about a different alt.  Anything from a funny conversation a random open party member had to witness between two RL friends to issues as a healer in a scenario.  It's an easy read and reminds me why I play this game.  For the fun.  And if fun means having 16 alts and enjoying all the early stages many times over and the thrill of new experiences no matter where you are in rank, then I say Ventris has definitely succeeded.  And yes, at one point, he listed all his alts.  All 16 of them.  Whew.

So, if you're like us and enjoy each class for one reason or another, or you're starting to feel the need to make another alt.  You're not alone.  Give Alt Much? a read.

About the WAR Community Promotion Initiative

The WAR Community Promotion Initiative, or WCPI for short, is a player-wide effort for WAR fansites, blogs, forums, and other WAR community efforts to cross-promote and expose content to everyone who visits them. Members of the WCPI regularly promote each other on a regular basis through links, spotlights, and other features. If you have a WAR site and you'd like to join, check out the WCPI thread or PM PhoenixRed on the Warhammer Alliance forums.

Tag you’re it!

Nerf the Cat has tagged me, and now I'm supposed to put up my sixth ever screenshot from my game of choice.  Here it is ...

Dark Elf Missing A Face

Dark Elf Missing A Face

I actually mentioned this screenshot in an older post of mine.  All Elves should have heads and faces, but there were a couple poor bastards that were missing theirs.

This brings up a cool thing/gripe I have about the WAR screenshots folder.  I like how they attach a name to the screen shot and then list a number, but by doing it that way I have no idea if this is actually the sixth screenshot I've ever taken as there's no date attached to the file.  Does anyone know if I can change how this is done?

Edit:  It seems I have not followed the directions completely.  After some digging around and link following I've found the start (and the rules!) of this blogging tag game.  So, to comply with this challenge I tag the following:

Alt Much?

Blame the Healer

Da Tall Stunty

Kiss My Bolter

Knights of the Feathered Hats

The Homunculus

PTS anyone?

My first bout of playing this afternoon got my Slayer Sans to rank 7.  Definitely seems a fun class to play.  The first few abilities fit well with the levels.  It was a crack up to see 10 Slayers running around a PQ trying to kill the big boss before we died.  With no heals it made things interesting.  I did see one Runepriest and one Engineer questing.  I didn't get a chance to test Sans out in any RvR, but that was purely my choice.  I wanted to level quickly and with very limited healing RvR didn't seem the way to go.

I didn't get much of a chance to test Salvaging or Talisman making but I did notice that Salvaging at least seems to have benefited from the changes.  I did receive a level 25 gold dust from something.  Ridiculous since my Talisman making was only at level 1.  I still had to purchase fragments in order to level that.  I admit I didn't try very hard to level that profession but so far I haven't seen an improvement.

There was a little bit of oRvR happening in the Greenskin/Dwarf PQ Krom Komar Gap.  I died plenty of times but it was fun testing the Slayer might against the Choppa.  A larger group started forming and we were just starting to push them back when I crashed to desktop.  No fun.

After that I took a break and when I came back I happened to glance at the forums and noticed that Mythic had put up a level 18 template.  I was all over that.  Heart was born.  Ugly, but I didn't have much of a choice in the matter.  Played a good half level before quitting for the night.  When I was playing Sans, I noticed that I could easily take 2 mobs at once and with a little work 3.  At level 18 there was no way I'd be able to take down 3 unless I got lucky.

All in all, this class should definitely be a blast to play and I'm glad they're trying to improve the professions.  I'm not sure how much more I'll play on the PTS as I'd like to spend time leveling either my Shaman (who hit rank 16.5 today) or my Archmage.  But we'll see.

Testing … 1, 2, 3.

Thought I'd put up a brief post before I headed to bed.

Rolled over to the PTS today to try out a couple things.  The Slayer, as I'm sure 300,000 others are doing as well, and to check out the Salvaging and Talisman making changes.  Right now I have to start from scratch but maybe I'll be able to get a better feel for the leveling increase.  I'm hoping I can actually see this improvement as my Archmage is still suffering through those two professions.

I'll follow up on my findings after I've played a bit more.

Night!
